A team of builders from Kent, under the name 'Young Stanley', nearly won the official selection. "We got down to the final two," says Rod Aylem, the band's singer. "They were very interested to use our song, but they didn't want us, because we're all too old, apparently.
"If they'd have said we were too ugly we could have accepted that but not too old. So we decided to do it ourselves."
The FA eventually chose 'World at your Feet' by Embrace. But the only verdict that matters is the one that comes from the fans.
