Wanted to respond to the blog article I was quoted in if you would allow it. While those were my exact words, the context in which they were said was not exactly presented. As an avid fan of the series, I have seen every episode and feel it to be one of the best written and filmed television series of all times. (At least through Season 4) The reason for the statement as quoted on your site was to say that even though Christians might get angry at Sheen’s character, they should be more angry at themselves for their ignorance of the Scriptures. That episode was used in our podcast because I felt it accurately portrayed Christians as people who often quote a Bible they are largely ignorant of. Does President Bartlett’s liberal views clash with those of the West Wing’s evangelical audience? Absolutely. But the character’s knowledge of the Scriptures should be inspiring us to study the Bible rather than igniting us to boycotts of the show.
