A strong story came through the other day. Indian beggars, it appears, are getting healthy limbs amputated by signed-up Doctors to raise their earning potential.
The story sells itself, so we got the rights to it. It had been shown first on Indian TV and we wanted to re-cut it and run it on tonight's news.
But things are never as easy as that. When the clips arrived they were cut like an MTV video. Flash-frames, hard zooms, odd sound clips and enough wipes and cuts to make you bleed. There was no shot held longer than 5 seconds, no clip allowed to run its natural length.
The editor who cut it must have been on speed. Or Acid. Or both.
So we are in the middle of a very long, very drawn out edit to make it look normal. It is a hard slog that involves slo-mo'ing, fine cutting and lots of imagination. But the story is in there somewhere and is begging to get out. So be it. Back to the edit room...
