What a contrast: Charles Kennedy's gets a standing ovation from a packed house, Simon Hughes is politely appauled by a half empty one. Chris Huhne's environmental agenda is the conference's principal theme, Simon Hughes delivers a few kind words for the party's volunteers.
He made a modest bid for re-election as Party President, and confirmed his intention to run for another term in Westminster. But there didn't seem to be much enthusiasm for the man whose role is to gee up the party's footsoldiers.
He made what sounded like a pop at the funding rows which have embroiled all parties. "You have to win the argument with the argument," he said, and not money.
About his own personal disgrace? "We have to make sure that we don't put people off from standing for public service, because the whole of their hinterland will be exposed."
Possibly he's right. But his chances of anyone taking any notice? He's more likely to become party leader.
